The Different Types of Skin Conditions Cats Face During Their Lifetime

Cats can be delicate creatures. This is certainly the case when they’re ill or in pain. While preparing your home for your new pet, one area of care you’ll want to focus on is their skin. Unlike dogs who you can bathe easily, cats are not fond of water.

That means that they are prone to getting skin conditions more frequently. Having products on hand to treat your pet’s irritated skin helps them become more comfortable after a period of discomfort. Corigem Balm or Serum Spray helps relieve dry and itchy patches so your cat feels happy and healthy again.

Here are some of the different types of skin conditions cat face during their lifetime:

  • External parasites. Fleas, mites, and ticks feed on your pet and cause them pain. Their natural response is to scratch the area that itches. This makes the spots on their skin inflamed and infected. The irritation worsens over time if not treated immediately.
  • Allergies. Like people, cats can have sensitivities. They may be responding to something in their immediate environments such as a household cleaner or something outdoors that comes in through windows, doors, and air vents.
  • Seasonal changes. When the weather changes, your cat’s skin does, too. This is especially true during winter when it’s cold and the heater runs full-time. When your pet’s skin gets dry and flaky, it itches and causes irritation. If they scratch at it continuously, they can cause the skin to break and become infected.
  • Stress. Sometimes cats get aggravated and start scratching at themselves because of their agitation. The stress of a new living environment, other animals, and even a change in routine can cause them to break out, itch, and scratch their bodies.
  • Food changes. If you’ve given your pet a new treat or type of food, he or she may be allergic to it. You won’t know this, of course, until after they’ve broken out in a rash or become fixated on licking and chewing an area of their body. If you think that a certain food is to blame for the skin irritation, discontinue using it immediately.

Your cat is unique and may experience a combination of skin conditions. It’s important to know what signs to look for so you can assist your pet right away. For example, if you see bald patches on their body, swollen areas, redness or scabs, it could be due to their constant scratching, chewing, and licking at their skin.

That’s when immediate action needs to take place to prevent the skin condition from worsening. You can treat it using Corigem products. If you notice that the area on your cat’s body isn’t getting better, you’ll want to bring him or her to the vet for further examination.

Cats are faced with many different skin conditions throughout their lifetime. That’s why it’s important to regularly check your pet for irritants and pests. If you notice a change in their behavior and see them scratching areas of their body, they could have a skin condition that needs treatment.
